ACLU dinner invitation

posted Apr 4, 2012, 9:31 AM by Theresa Novak

UUCO's Social Justice in Action Covenancy (SJAC) invites you to attend the American Civil Liberties Union's (ACLU) annual Bill of Rights dinner to be held in SLC on Wednesday, May 2 at the Rail Event Center ( 235 North 500 West, Salt Lake City.)

The ACLU is an organization which has tirelessly fought for racial justice, immigrant rights, religious liberty, participatory democracy, lgbt rights and more, and SJAC enthusiastically supports this event.  This year's keynote speaker will be Spencer Overton of George Washington Law School.

From a historical perspective, it is important to note that the ACLU was founded by Roger Nash Baldwin (who was a Unitarian)  in 1920.  The Utah chapter was chartered around 1958 following the McCarthy hearings.

The tickets are $100 each, and there are 8 seats per table.  They are also offering "recession rate" tickets for $65 each. These tickets are available to anyone who feels they need to pay the reduced rate.  If you want to attend, please purchase your tickets on line at the following link:

Just type in "Unitarian Universalist Church of Ogden" in the "Would like to be seated with" section and you will have a place at our table.
