DONATE NOW: https://www.wepay.com/donations/75015 From November 5, 2011 to January 7th Occupy Ogden was camped on the front lawn of our church. We offered them sanctuary because it was the right thing to do and because the goal of the Occupy movement is totally in keeping with the 7 principles of Unitarian Universalism. The Occupy Ogden General Assembly voted to disband the camp as of January 7th because it was taking too many resources and too much time to maintain the camp. The UU Church of Ogden supported the General Assembly's decision to close the camp which was always intended to be temporary. The Church and its members are continuing to support the Occupy movement in a variety of ways. We are a small church, located in the inner city area of a working class town, and we are involved in the surrounding community in many ways. We provide cash support, free space, and volunteers for a GLBT teen drop in center, host free flu shot clinics, organize free clothing swaps, have a food shelf, and offer low cost Spanish Classes. We are very proud of our social justice work. Our church budget was already in serious trouble before Occupy Ogden happened. We need your help to stay afloat and keep on doing what we need to do in helping promote our UU values in the wider world. Donations large or small would be much appreciated. As our minister, the Reverend Theresa Novak, said in her sermon on November 6th, "We are not seeking pie in the sky, or salvation after we die, but a better world, a caring and compassionate world, a world where the powerless are treated with dignity and respect and where the human spirit can flourish and be whole." http://www.facebook.com/notes/unitarian-universalist-church-of-ogden/11612-occupy-ogden-rev-theresa-novak/10150362176889272 Help us to help make that happen.
